In order to be successful in the real world, I needed to develop a good attitude toward developing a career. One of the unique aspects of New Technology High was that it fostered a professional attitude toward my work--the teachers didn't just relay their curriculum to me, but also tried to integrate it into a work scenario, as if I were given a paying job and needed to complete it well.

An example of preparing for a future career was my American Studies 'Together We Stand' project, where I constructed a fictional newspaper taking place during the Great Depression. Since I had to write articles and layout pages that were accurate to what may have been published at the time, I needed to be in the mindset of a journalist, knowing exactly what processes contribute to the production of a newspaper. By doing so, I was able to learn a variety of disciplines essential in the industry, such as meeting deadlines and critically proofreading all of the content--all of these skills could help me during any type of demanding job.
