| Introduction |
A large part of regular life at New Tech involves presentations at the end of many of our projects.
The project Women and Minorities in WWII required that we create a presentation to pitch to a panel of producers from HBO. We were to pitch a four episode series based entirely on the contribution of the women and minorities during the war, and why our pitch should be chosen. We first had to read the book Desert Exile by Yoshiko Uchida, which was the story of her and her family being imprisoned in the Japanese Internment Camps during WWII. This was to give us an understanding for the circumstances that Japanese-Americans were given after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. After being divided into groups of four, and choosing a main topic, we had to research not only the main topic we chose, but all five topics (which were: The Navajo Code Talkers, The Japanese Internment, The Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team and 100th Battalion, the Tuskegee Airmen, and Women on the Home front). When we had our main topic, we divided the extra topics between each member of the group and each person became an expert on that topic through extensive research, and had to write up an individual report. Having all our research, we divided up how we were going to do our pitch by category. Our first two episodes were based on the Navajo Code Talkers, our third episode was divided between the Women on the Home front and the Tuskegee Airmen, and our last episode was based on the Japanese American Internment and the Japanese American 442 nd and 100 th . For the benefit of the panel, we had to write up summations on each episode, so that they had something to refer to during the pitch if they needed to know more about a historical point in our presentation. |
