The Great Depression hit America like Tyson hit Hollyfield, with a staggering blow. But hey it would be all right; America would get back up and start swinging again. But not that time, not in 1929 when the stock market crashed, and delivered its crippling blow to the economy. No, America would stay down, a complete Knock Out.
And where was our dear ol' President Hoover, well he was referring the match, and he was trying his best to get America back on its feet, but he just couldn't do it. What America needed was a coach not just some referee who tried coaxing America to get back in the fight, but hey, at least he didn't take a single red cent. Still America was in desperate measures, and it needed a coach who would stand by America 's side and take it to the top, so that it can get its second chance against its defeater, but first America 's going to have to go through an opponent even more devastating, the Great Depression.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected as America 's coach, with high hopes and a charisma like no other President Roosevelt marched straight up to America and started training America for its fight soon to come. Roosevelt started by making America forget its old tactics, I suspect he felt that the best thing to do was to bring something fresh to the fight, give the enemy a new enemy, The New America. FDR first began with conditioning; Roosevelt made Congress pass a bill Known as the Emergency Banking Act. This new tactic consisted of a four day mandatory shut down of U.S. banks, so that they could be inspected and reopened for business. Roosevelt hoped that by doing this he would re-instill investor confidence to the banks, giving the banks a second chance, and further increasing the confidence in America with its big fight.
But America was still not yet ready to challenge the Great Depression, it still needed something other then a new approach, it needed something that packed a big punch. America told Roosevelt this problem that it felt, so Roosevelt being the good coach that he was, started thinking and came up with a brilliant combo, the good ol' one two punch, and FDR dubbed it The New Deal. The New Deal consisted of administrating jobs and distributing them among the unemployed, and giving good substantial wages. Many programs were funded and deployed to further arm America , and increase its chances of survival, yes with this new secret weapon America was ready to challenge the Great Depression and reclaim its title as the dominant World Power.
The final fight of America had begun; the people were all watching, and cheering for their one and only America . With FDR in the corner, and America all pumped up and full of newborn confidence, the Great Depression never knew what hit it. First America gave the One, and elected President Franklin Delano Roosevelt; then America threw the Two, and administrated the Emergency Banking Act; and finally America knocked the Great Depression out with its New Deal. America was saved due to this important individual who we now owe tribute to even to this day, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
