Dear Reader...

As my senior year rapidly draws to a close, I am working fastidiously to finish up this portfolio. It's purpose being to give you an intimate idea of the type of person and student I am, with examples to prove. This personal statement allows me a moment to reflect on myself, my years of high school, and my future, as well as share a little of this with you.

My immediate post high-school plan is to attend University of California, Santa Barbara, where I have been admitted and accepted admission. At UCSB I intend to study fine art as an art major. I also have intentions for a second major in Biology or perhaps literature. Although beyond this the future gets a bit hazy, I plan on pursuing a graduate degree in fine art with a painting emphasis. Eventually, I would to attain a PhD in Art Education and work as an art professor at a university. Throughout my life I will continue to practice as a fine artist. I am deeply excited to begin my post secondary education at UCSB, and thankful for the experiences that got me there. My committed family, friends and boyfriend have all been sources of support and comfort for me.

Born in Los Angeles, I moved to Napa in 3 rd grade and to conquer immense loneliness I cultivated an artistic passion and skill. For middle school I opted to attend River School and received an exemplary alternative education that fostered acceptance, open mindedness, and intellect in myself. Art classes under the spectacular guidance of Melissa Vashe continued to further both my skill for and interest in art.

Attending New Technology for High School has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The environment of professionalism and equality was a perfect match for me. Beyond that, Tech has provided me with truly amazing opportunities. Through a school nomination I attended National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. I also received an internship at the diRosa Preserve, a local Bay Area art gallery. It was an experience that greatly contributed to art knowledge and awareness, and provided me with modern art education. New Tech has also made it possible to graduate early, an opportunity that probably wouldn't have been possible at any of the other various High Schools in Napa.

As you navigate through my portfolio, I'm sure you'll notice the emphasis in art. However, I am skilled in other disciplines which perhaps might be more subtly referenced. Writing, Biology, and Leadership are three particular skills that I have witnessed in myself. My skills in Biology and leadership have been particularly cultivated at New Tech.

I can't believe this is my last month of high school. It feels like just yesterday I was at a Freshman orientation day for New Tech. Just as quickly as it all started, it's ending. Although High School was rough for me at times, I look back on it with predominantly fond feelings. A few good friends and close relationships with teachers have kept me rolling. I'm excited to embark on this last month, savoring the moments.

Peace!
