A good citizen works hard to make his/her school school or business and community better. A good citizen stays informed about the state of his country and community and is involved in community and national affairs through voting and service. A good citizen obeys all the laws of his nation, respects authority, and protects the environment. “A citizen who shrinks from his duty to contribute to the security of his community is little better than the criminal who threatens it.”
I feel that it is important in life to always be involved with your community through volunteer service and support of volunteer service groups. Throughout my pre-New Tech life I was involved in many service projects both here at home and abroad each summer. A few of the things that I have done include cleaning up a high school in the Hercules area, repainting several rooms of an aging middle school in Richmond and, starting last year, volunteering with my local Leo Club (the Leo Club is the teen version of the Lions Club International- one of the largest service groups world wide); also, during the last several summers I spent over a month (total time) working on service projects in Mexico. I have also taken part in public events such as the Lighted Boat Cruise that San Francisco hosts each Christmas.
I have completed all of the 20 hours of community service that New Tech requires.. The service that I did included serving as a referee for the WCCYSL (without accepting payment of course) and serving in the Napa Valley Teen Peer Court Program.
