Welcome!
To Scott Berardi's Senior Portfolio!

In case you may not know, this portfolio is a graduation requirement for New Technology High School . In this portfolio I hope to show you my understanding of the eight learning outcomes of New Technology High, an idea of what I want to do for my career, and some of the things I have done during my senior year.

To me, this portfolio is a culmination of what I have learned at school, and the accomplishments that I have made during that time. This portfolio is also to show you that I have an understanding of what I have learned and how it applies to me now.

Thank you and enjoy your stay! :)

Personal statement

God, where do I start? For the first two yeas of high school, I was an independent studies student. Every week I would go see my teacher, talk about the work I did the previous week, get more assignments, go home, open a book, read it, do the odd numbered problems, see my teacher, and do the whole process over again next week. For the first year of ding this, I didn't have a problem with it… in fact, I enjoyed the independence I got doing my school work by myself. For the first time I was doing high school math, English, History, and Science. I guess it was the repetition that did me in, but the next year I got board… really board. I barley knew what to do with myself. My weeks turned into debating weather I was going to get all of my work done at the beginning of the week, or if I was going to procrastinate and do it when I felt like it. I needed something different; I needed a change…

My mom is actually the one that found out about this school. My sister hated independent schooling more then I was so my mom did some looking around. Though I am unsure of how she cam across this place, she found it and told Terra (my sister) about it. Terra was so exited about it. And after me mom AND my sister where sold on coming to Tech, I decided to jump on the band wagon and try this new place out for myself.

When I first came to Tech, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I heard this thing about trust, respect, and responsibility; and it sounded like something I wanted to be a part of. I heard of how most everything is done in a group and you get to work with a lot of people in getting things done. When I heard about this, I was very exited that I was going to be apart of something incredible.

I thrived on the environment. I loved coming to a school that I felt good being at. I felt safe, respected, honored for what have done, appreciated for the things I was trying to do; I felt good at night knowing that I had school in the morning.

New Technology High has given me the skills I need to take it to the next step. What ever "it" is, I feel like I can take on the challenge and overcome the obstacles to further myself in my education... and in life.

Where do you plan to go from here Scott?

That is an excellent question. After school I am going to go to the California Maritime Academy majoring in Marine Transportation. I want to become a ship pilot after I graduate and in about ten or fifteen years I want to become a Bar Pilot. (AKA the one who sails the big container ships into the San Francisco bay.) I have loved being out on the water for as long as I can remember and take great pride in calling myself a Mariner.

What would you say your greatest accomplishment is?

Another excellent question. I consider all of my accomplishments to be great. I am proud of all the things that I do and look forward to the things that I am going to do. but if I had to pick one, I think it would have to be Getting my Eagle Scout Award. Not only do I feel a great Sense of accomplishment from getting to, but it's a title that will always stay with me, no matter what.
