Personal Statement/Introduction
Through this personal statement and portfolio I’ve tried to make certain things evident about my personality and me. So instead of making people guess about me I’ve decided to just list out these important aspects about me and explain why they are important.
The first thing I hope you’ll notice throughout my site is that many of the pictures and photos are yin yang like in message. For my main page, which your on now, and what will most likely become the symbol behind everything else in my site is that it is almost like an interpretive yin yang. Even the entrance page has a balance to it. I put these things in there because I personally believe in a balance to everything. To be healthy you need to have a balanced diet. Being social you have to be balanced about treating others with respect and still putting forth your own opinions. The world requires balance to be stable and support all the species. Everything needs balance and I tried to show that through my site.
Second, I want people to know of my ability to adapt. It is an important ability I think for anyone to have to be able to survive. In my mind I also relate this to the yin yang balance of life. You need to adapt to the disturbances in the water to go back into balance. Not only that but I have found it very useful. I think it is because my nature is so adaptive that both Berkeley and Davis accepted me into their campuses. If you know anything about those two places you know that Berkeley is more pretentious and competitive while Davis is a little more down to earth and laid back. Anyone in sports knows that I will do not back down from a competition and will always put forth my best effort in hopes of winning. It is also that competitive nature that leads to me being second in the class of 2007. However it is due to me being able to lay back and enjoy being a senior that not one senior outside of my friends figured that I’d be second in class. Not to mention that some of the greatest leaders in the world had to adapt to situations to still come out on top.
Third, I want everyone to know about my feelings concerning the environment. Once again, this can also relate to balance, specific between our culture and nature. This is also a very complex issue that many factors have had influenced over me. First there is my background in the Boy Scouts. All those days hiking and seeing sights that most people don’t see because they are too busy living in the city or are just to lazy and spending nights looking up the stars, feeling the cold have all left me with an affinity for nature. This is nothing like being out in nature. I believe along with Thoreau that we shouldn’t protect just for our benefits but just because it is there. Because trust me there is nothing like it anywhere else. Another factor is my environmental science course and ecology. It is through those things that I understand the relationship of our culture and nature. Just how intricate and fragile connections between our culture and other species and the environment is. We need to see these connection before it is too late and we destroy the environment. Where else are we going to get food?
Lastly, I’d just like to state that I want to become a surgeon. This again is because I believe in keeping balance; in the body. It is also because of my love for the uniqueness and beauty of the human body. I strive to learn about how my own body works and how I can improve its functions. There is no limit to how much I can learn and even discover about the human body and that is the most exciting thing I can think of. This is where I will conclude because I believe these are the four most important things to know about me. Thank you for browsing my site.
