Personal Statement

Life is full of learning experiences, and during the time that I have attended New Technology High School, I have experienced so much.  I have never found a school where I am accepted and welcomed as much as I am here, and my progressive portfolio conveys how I have benefited from this.    My portfolio reflects the tools and techniques I have been shown that I can apply to further any career or path that I choose in life.
At New Tech I actively participate in the Terra Mater Club, Key Club, and Prom Committee.  These clubs have not only expanded my social connection with my peers, but have also been a great way to get involved and help others.  Terra Mater means “Mother Earth” in Latin, and in this club we plan and execute campus cleanups to ensure a clean and beautiful school environment.  Key Club is all about helping others through community service.  Members of the club, including myself work together to benefit our community and ourselves.  The Prom Committee has been an enjoyable club to be a part of as well because prom is an especially memorable event in a person’s life.  It takes a lot of work and planning to make it amazing, and I am proud to be a part of the whole process. 
A main interest of mine is music- not just listening, but most of all I love to sing.  I guess you could say that it’s my way of self-expression.  Lyrics and melodies are so powerful that they can actually change someone’s life.  The fact that this can be accomplished by just a few words and a beat is completely amazing to me.
Another passion of mine is helping others, especially being involved in poverty relief around the world.  I hope to join the Peace Corps after college, and find a job with a nonprofit to even further this interest.
My experience here at New Tech so far has been extremely beneficial to my current as well as future goals in life.  After I leave Tech I would love to travel the world, and possibly attend college or university somewhere other than the United States.  I think that if you stay in one place for too long, you really limit yourself in terms of life experience.  I would also love to be a part of finding a way to help our environmental crisis with global warming and pollution.  Social issues such as homelessness, victims of disaster, abuse, and poverty are also extremely important to me.  If we do not act on these issues now, we will end up regretting it later.  New Technology High School has increased my confidence in being a part of the work world, no matter what job I ultimately end up with.  I will strive for the best no matter where I go, because I know that in the end, it really does matter.
