Welcome to Joanne Sundrud's Professional Portfolio. This web page is one of the various projects that I have worked on during my junior and senior year at New Technology High School, a technologically advanced project-based high school for juniors and seniors on the West Coast. The digital portfolio is used to show case what I have learned from New Technology High School and show the work that I have completed. Feel free to explore my site. You'll find business related information about myself, essays, and other projects that I have created with programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Image Ready, and Powerpoint. Additions will be made to this site as I work on more projects. If you are interested in learning more about New Technology High School, CLICK HERE to go to their web site.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
To Whom It May Concern: Graduation is not far ahead of me. Soon I will walk across the stage to be handed my diploma and my life. Ahead of me I can only see what I have the potential to become and behind me I see all of the experiences in my life that have made me who I am today. This portfolio contains work that I have completed in high school. My portfolio reflects what I have learned, what I am capable of, and it reflects who I am. My goal is to create costumes as the technical part of theater. Specifically, I would really enjoy creating costumes modeled after Japanese animation. I have watched and loved various Japanese cartoons since the seventh grade. I had previously used my artistic talents to recreate every detail of an anime picture on paper, teaching myself proportion and the ability to redraw what I see on paper. However, only recently have I tried to use these skills to make a costume from looking at different drawings of an anime outfit. In the year 2001, I was able to create a two-piece khaki cloak with a thin green cloth on the inside of the cloak. The next year, I tried to make something more difficult: a two-piece outfit including a shirt and a skirt. I used my best friend as a model and was able to successfully complete my outfit of yellow bridal satin, complete with zippers. Although I find the most joy in making anime costumes, it would be fun if I could just create outfits. I know I do not know enough to do everything, but I am very adept at figuring out ways to modify outfits. I plan to practice more costume making during my senior year through the Senior Project. I am also planning to complete my school internship hours working for Hancock Fabrics, a local fabric shop, so I can become familiar with the various textiles. It will require a lot of determination to become a costume maker, but I believe it is possible.
