The history of our state is not a morally clean one. We fought dirty, lied and cheated to get our way. We did what was needed to create this perfect country were every one is now free. The key word in that last sentence is “now”. Things would be a lot different if key things in our past did not happen. What would the U.S be like if we never had slavery, or if we grew less labor-intensive crops? Would the U.S be the way we know it today? I would like to think not.

The labor-intensive crops were tobacco, and cotton. Both of those crops are known as cash crops. Cash crops were grown for sell, to raise money for the owner and the government. That is one of the reasons why the U.S was and is so rich. If we did not grow those crops then our country would not be as rich as we are now. We would not have the money to have the best army, and the power we have today. We would not be known as the most powerful nation. We would not be able to secure world safety like we do now. There are a lot of things that would change because of one small change in history. We would loss so much because of one little change in our crops. Think about how much of a change would happen if we did not have slaves? Considering the fact that so much was run and worked by slaves. Our lives today in the world we now live in would be remarkable different.

Think about this. What would change if there were no slaves? Would there be as many crops and farmers in history? No. Slaves were the work force of every thing in our history. They are the reason our crops worked and the reason we went to war with each other. The Civil war was fought because of slavery. One part of our nation thought that slaves were humans and should not be forced to work and the other half thought that they were inferior animals that were only there to serve us. We felt so strongly about the two that we went to war over it. It was the bloodiest war in U.S history. Hundreds of thousands of people died over slaves. Just think that, that would have never happened if we did not have slaves.

I think that we would always have some sort of slavery. If it was not the blacks from Africa then it would be Native Americans. We already used to Indians get what we wanted land wise. I could see us using them to work the land also. We would not have put them in the reservations instead we would have used them to work the land we cheated them out of.

With out us using slaves there would not be a lot of movements in our country. There would not have been all those protests about the rights of blacks and people. There would have been no civil rights movement because there were no people that were being treated unfair. I also think it would have brought our nation closer together. We would not have fought over slaves, and the north would have to help the south because they were dependent on slave labor. The north could have shipped their goods directly to the south instead of to England and then to the south. The north could have sent workers and in other white people to work on the crops. They would also need to change the crops the south grew.

Things in today’s world would not be the same if key things in our past never happened. With out the controversial use of slaves our nation would be nothing like it is today. We needed to learn from our past to crest a better future for our kids and the nation.
