Barbie/ American dream
What is the american dream? It's
different for every individual, but then maybe it's really the same on
a deeper level. We all want to be happy and we all have this dream about
what we think will make us happy. We're all driven by the same motives,
just with different ideas on how to accomplish what
we want.
So what is the american dream?
For immigrants, they come for the "American Dream." The dream of coming
with nothing and ending up with more, the "rags to riches" dream. They
leave their home expecting and hoping for a better life.
What about the people all ready
established in America, the descendants of immigrants? What is their dream?
Their dream is to be successful, have a big house, tons of clothes, to
be gorgeous, to have a family, and a cute little dog. In the video it shows
the big house with the white picket fence and the car, the dream of the
50's.
The majority of the "American Dream" is very materialistic. America is
a good country to live in compared to some third world countries like Kenya.
We have what we need but we dream of more. Americans have this mentality,
"Bigger is better." Barbie has achieved the "American Dream", she has the
big house, all the clothes, Ken her beloved boyfriend, the car, the money,
and the beauty.
Yet Barbie could get more in a blink of an eye if and when she wanted it.
When the "American Dream" changes ,what Barbie possesses changes.
