The
past four years have been filled with a tremendous amount of activity.
High school is the hardest on kids. Looking back on my first two
years in high school I felt lost. I was the average student who did
not stick out in class. On top of that I was hesitant to speak in class.
I felt lost, but not to the point of being alone or really depressed.
Many teachers only paid close attention to the troublemakers and the students
who excelled in their work. I knew that Vintage was not the right
school for me.
When I heard about New Technology High School I was interested right away.
It took me a while to decide because this was going to change my education
quite a bit. I am happy to say that I chose New Tech. I have
met new people, learned more than I would have at my old school (technology
wise), and have gained more confidence.
New Tech’s smaller size created a close community amongst the students,
because of the atmosphere I feel more comfortable speaking in front of
my peers and other groups and I am active in my school as president of
Friday Night Live. I have enhanced my skills in communication, technology,
citizenship, written communication, and collaboration. I am
also proud to be a part of the third graduating class, the class of 2000.
The skills that I have gathered at New Tech have prepared me for the business
world of today.
Aside from school, I have all the support needed to be successful in college
from my family. My mother especially has supported me in every possible
way. From the day I was born she has provided for me the best she
could. It was okay that I could not have something because there
was not enough money because I knew she loved me and that is what mattered.
My mother taught me about Jesus when I was a little girl and to this day
still lets me know that Jesus loves me. She has always shown me what
was right from what was wrong. She is one of the many reasons for my success.
I look to her for guidance and a warm smile that says, “I love you.”
I have so much love for my mother and I thank Jesus every day that I have
her as my mother. Sometimes I wonder what our future relationship
will be like. I always reach the conclusion that we will be life-long
best friends.
As I am about to graduate from high school the reality that I have grown
up is hitting a lot of people. My family keeps saying they cannot
believe that I am turning into an adult and will be going out into the
world to make a life of my own. I can hardly believe it myself.
It feels like it was just yesterday that I started my journey to adulthood
and somehow skipped a few steps. Each year has slipped by faster
and the end is so close. While it is a month away, (a long time when
first looked at), but in reality is only around the corner. High
school is the final stretch to the beginning of the rest of my life.
When June rolls around I will no long be a child, but an adult.
